Events in the region

Glöckln, Berigln, Ruabnfeldln - there is nothing so sacred to the Ausseers than the customs they celebrate over the course of the year. Customs here are never rural folklore, rather they have been part of daily life throughout the generations.

Along with the unique customs, music too is reflected in the spiritual life of the local people. After all, music features in every household. It is a matter of course for Ausseers to express themselves through music, singing and rhyme set to music, and it is this, along with the unique mountain and lake landscape that has magically attracted writers, actors and artists here for many years.

It may even be that at a table beside you in an inn someone will spontaneously pick up an instrument and give it their all by performing a few "’Gstanzl’". There will also be some "vorpascht" and "zuahipascht", until everyone in the room has had a go at this virtuoso style of clapping.
The best atmosphere is sure thing!

Along with the many little - and not so little - cultural and traditional events, in Ausseerland there are countless places which are steeped in history and legendary places to explore too.

The wild growing narcissus adorn the flower meadows of the Ausseerland in spring. They transform the picturesque mountain and lake landscape around the Narzissendorf Zloam into a fragrant sea of flowers. Everywhere the meadows shine in green-white-yellow splendour, heralding summer in the region.

Depending on the altitude, the star-shaped narcissus sprout from mid-May to mid-June. Because of their special shape, the characteristic flowers are also affectionately called Star Narcissus. And to celebrate this extraordinary natural spectacle, the Narcissus Festival, the largest flower festival in Austria, takes place every year around this time.This year the Narzissendorf Zloam proudly participated for the first time in the 62nd edition of the festival in 2022.

When chic "Madln und Buam" (girls and boys) jump into the lake in dirndl dresses and lederhosen in Ausseerland, it's "Dirndlspring" time. Helga Brandauer-Rastl from Aussee had the idea for this fun event 20 years ago. Since then, no summer in the idyllic Salzkammergut region has gone by without the legendary Dirndlspringen. On the contrary: the traditional summer event has become part of the event calendar in many places on this side and the other side of the border.

On Sunday 13 August, the 20th Original Rastl - Dirndlspringen took place for the first time in the Narzissendorf Zloam. As you can see in the video below, numerous jumpers did not miss the opportunity and dared to make courageous jumps into the Zloam pond.
